imho too many people are overindexing value accrual. yes it's an important topic to address eventually but it's not as important as you think it is i remember coming across this research done by @connorking back in April and the findings were pretty interesting TL;DR: revenue scale is the real driver of returns, irrespective of value accrual mechanism. having value accrual without a strong core business is useless. caveat: the dataset seems really skewed towards defi tokens and i'd love to see more representation from other categories

▶ AI server demand drives sharp price gains in high end MLCCs - Rising demand for AI server buildouts is tightening global supply of high end MLCCs, triggering sharp price spikes in China's electronic component distribution market. - Spot prices for some popular MLCC products have climbed 3 to 5x since the start of the year, and in Shenzhen and Shanghai there is even speculative trading in which some product prices shift on a daily basis. - The price gains are concentrated in high capacity, high temperature products such as 22μF and 47μF. Unlike the broad based shortage of 2018, the core issue this time is an imbalance between surging AI demand and limited supply. - Major global players such as Murata and Samsung Electro Mechanics have recently scaled back production for consumer electronics such as smartphones and PCs, shifting capacity toward high margin products for AI servers and automotive applications. - High end MLCCs carry high technical barriers and demanding yield requirements, making it structurally difficult to add new capacity quickly. Some AI server MLCCs have risen from around 80 yuan per 1,000 units at the start of the year to more than 350 yuan. - Original manufacturers are managing shipments more tightly than before, with orders of several million to tens of millions of units being filled at only 10 to 20% of the requested volume. - Some overseas suppliers have revived bundling, requiring buyers of high capacity MLCCs to also purchase mid and low capacity products. - AI servers use roughly 8 to 12x more MLCCs than standard servers. Goldman Sachs projects that MLCCs are the third largest cost item in AI servers after GPUs and memory, and that related demand will grow 4.3x from 2025 to 2030. - That said, the price gains are concentrated in high capacity, high reliability products for AI and automotive applications rather than across the entire product range. Demand for low capacity consumer electronics MLCCs remains weak. - Because building high end production lines takes 18 to 24 months, the shortage is likely to persist through the second half of this year and beyond 2027. China's Fenghua Advanced Technology and Chaozhou Three Circle Group could benefit as orders shift their way.

on the state of "digital credit"- there has been a lot of noise around what is going on in the preferreds market, good theories, bad explanations, almost all certainly with uncertain proofs. at times like this when the future looks inscrutable, its important to reduce all abstractions into the most knowable facts to be prepared for the future. here are three bullets that id like to share in that spirit: 1) mNAV and BPS have been intellectually inconsistent since i called it out now over a year ago. this particular reckoning is at some level a reflection of the pent up mismatch between expectation and reality. the industry needs to do better and im optimistic that after mr. market's voting machine the healing process can finally begin 2) despite its colloquial characterization, preferred equities are definitionally not credit in the sense of its legal protection afforded to debtors, and is absolutely not a money market fund replacement. analogies can sometimes be useful to draw heuristics but you obfuscate the core differences at your own peril 3) nonetheless, digital credit has found remarkable product market fit. over 10bn in monthly trading volume across only a few tickers is heroic for a new product category in finance, and remains one of the most liquid securities in our capital markets today. in fact, it is singlehandedly the largest preferreds segment that has ever existed in US history and the largest issuance was the largest IPO in 2025. i expect these instruments to be issued by many strategically important companies going forward to raise flexible funds for strategic assets/needs always remember that cryptos core mission is to fix the unfair manipulation of time by technocrats, to fix the physics of money by reunderwriting the concept of duration beyond the risk free rate by introducing continuous spreads in the most dynamic mechanism possible with the most amount of decentralized liquidity the world has ever known. thats why perpetual futures is the biggest TAM the global capital markets has ever seen in modern history, as is prediction markets, as will be perpetual prefs. while some may be in despair with the current price action, i believe in hindsight this will be remembered as a historic moment to upgrade the industry, its leaders, its products, and most importantly its customers. you will always be served well if you just remember that every bet in crypto is ultimately an expression of two ideologies: volatility is vitality, and liquidity is liberty. now go for a stretch, and strive to always be learning
